inspired2learn support Julia’s House Hospice
To recognise both International Day of Charity and World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we wanted to share with you the story of an amazing local charity – Julia’s House Hospice – and how we proudly support them throughout the year.
Each year at inspired2learn we select a local charity to support. We began in 2002 by donating the cash we would normally spend on business Christmas cards to clients, colleagues and suppliers and we have continued this since, supporting a variety of local causes.
In more recent years Clare has gifted her professional time to Dorothy House Hospice, supporting the senior leadership team with free coaching and training events. Practically, it isn’t always possible to run development programmes completely free of charge, but wherever possible she has waived charges for her time and expenses, which makes the hospice’s learning budgets stretch a lot further.
In Devizes, Wiltshire – where inspired2learn’s HQ is based – Julia’s House, the first Wiltshire hospice care for children opened in 2017. Clare regularly goes out into the local community as a volunteer and gives talks to raise awareness of the work of the hospice team and raise a few pennies for them.
“I’ve met such interesting people and groups and the work of the hospice is so inspirational, it’s not difficult to generate interest and support. The stories of families supported by the hospice really resonate with people and their work in the community is invaluable.”
Clare spends much of her working day delivering training or talks, so it’s the perfect skills for her to offer as a volunteer, especially as a lot of volunteers aren’t keen on giving presentations.
i2l also runs a free evening coaching networking group in Devizes, for peer discussions and learning. Instead of charging a fee, we ask for donations to Julia’s House Hospice. We also chuck spare coppers in the collection tin at home and over the course of the last year, we have raised a brilliant £115.96 which was donated to Julia’s House at the end of last month.
Last year we also sponsored a race at Julia’s House fundraising race night. The inspired2learn team had a great time and will be sponsoring the event again this year on 4th October.
