“Just a quick one to say that I was sceptical before today’s supervision session. I place great value in learning from those with more experience, skills and knowledge than me, and generally find activities based on “sharing good practice” of negligible worth, and that was what I was expecting. How wrong I was on all counts. It was great, I learned lots. Thank you.”

Clare's experience and approach
Supervision philosophy
Clare is a warm, kind and challenging supervisor. Highly experienced and qualified, she draws upon many different approaches and methodologies in order to be flexible with each client.
Her style is peaceful yet challenging, purposeful yet relaxed. Clare’s professional skill is directing care and support for the coach into insightful questions – choosing the right supervision tool for the right moment to uncover potential and facilitate reflective practice. Supervision should challenge the limitations and assumptions that others might pass by. The phrase ‘fierce courage’ and this sums up Clare’s practice.
Supervision is a space for curiosity and exploration. Care for the coach, care for ethics, care for the client and their stakeholders and care for the coaching profession.
Supervision is collaborative and purposeful, offering a space to wonder and wander.
Supervision is “a learning relationship; a place to create an understanding that can be taken back into those other, workplace, relationships.” (Cochrane & Newton 2018).
Hawkins and Smith (2006) defined supervision as “the process by which a coach with the help of a supervisor, can attend to understanding better both the client system and themselves as part of the client-coach system, and by so doing transform their work and develop their craft”.
In essence, supervision provides a space for the coach (supervisee) and the supervisor to both reflect upon their experiences and learning. “
Resources for coaches and supervisors
Clare has published three coaching books and created a pack of coaching cards.

Your offer of support and words of encouragement were valued.
Just a short note to say thank you for your input today up at the LSC Regional Office in Gateshead. It is really important that we have an idea of the key criteria and expectations for the course. You set these out clearly and succinctly, and answered our questions just as needed. I certainly feel more reassured about embarking on the course following your session. Your offer of support and words of encouragement were also valued. We appreciate you making such a long journey to support us.
